Sophie Carpenter
I’m Sophie and the founder of Geckos by Sophie.
Briefly about my person; I am 23 years old, keep and breed reptiles for 8 years now. Currently I live in beautiful Switzerland – at Lake Constance directly to the border to Constance/Germany.
My fascination with reptiles began at the age of 10. Back then, visiting reptile and butterfly houses with my dad was a highlight for me. At the age of 12 I was allowed to hold a tarantula on my hand for the first time.
I met my ex-boyfriend when I was 15. Through him, the door to my own reptile husbandry was finally open! Together we cared for a wide variety of reptiles. With time I focused on keeping bush crocodiles (for more see BLOG – link). About this beautiful species there were only outdated reports on the Internet. From this came the idea to find out something new about their behavior – to explore. So I started my documentaries about 3 years until the relationship came to an end. I had to decide, within minutes, – do I take my “research project” or my beloved leopard geckos and hook-nosed snakes.
Where love falls. I left my project to my ex-boyfriend and brought my little animals home. My parents were not very enthusiastic… But I – and my animals – had no other choice.
A short time later, the fire ignited in me to build something completely independent. One terrarium after another was made to measure. I took all my savings and invested in new plastic terrariums.
More and more reptiles, big and small, fat and thin, healthy and animals with disabilities found their way to me.
Today – 2022 – I have 8 years of experience in terraristics, keeping and breeding reptiles and I keep expanding my already existing knowledge. I am proud of what I have built up on my own and would like to express that through my website.
